Revision Rhinoplasty/Septorhinoplasty
What is Revision Rhinoplasty/Septorhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to correct the negative result of a previous rhinoplasty. This surgery may be done to correct any of the following problems resulting from primary rhinoplasty:
- Your nose is still too big
- Bad looking nose shape
- The tip of the nose looks like it's been squeezed with a finger
- Excessive arch of the nose and its hollowness
- Nasal airways are still blocked, nasal congestion
- Excessive or inadequate correction of the tip of the nose
- Excessively thickened scar tissue inside and outside the nose
- Irregular, irregular nasal dorsum or incompatibility between the nasal dorsum and tip
- Collapse of nasal bone and cartilage support systems
- Leaving the tip of the nose too long
- Asymmetry in the nose
- Nasal wings collapse inward while breathing
- The nose shape becomes unnatural and looks artificial
What Happens in Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is a personalized surgery that may require several highly advanced rhinoplasty surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcome. In most cases, revision rhinoplasty requires harvesting cartilage from alternative sites, such as the auricle or ribs. The duration of your surgery will vary depending on the number of procedures to be performed on the nose. After the surgery, you can stay one night in your room in the ward for the necessary care and treatments, and then go home the next morning after your doctor checks you and if there are no problems. If you are a patient coming from abroad, we can help you make arrangements for accommodation and medical transportation.
How Long is the Recovery After Revision Rhinoplasty?
Although the recovery period is different for each patient, we would like to inform you that you will need a 10-15 day rest period to return to work and school. You will have a mold, called a thermal splint, that covers the outer part of the nose to protect it and keep it stable, as well as a nasal splint made of silicone that will support the inner part and allow you to breathe comfortably. The first 1-3 days after surgery are the most disturbing periods, especially due to nasal breathing and discharge from the nose. However, you will go through this period more comfortably with the medications and nasal sprays we give you. From about the 2nd day, you can do light activities such as walking, but you should avoid bending over, lifting anything heavy, or sneezing through your nose for about two weeks. We recommend that you keep your head above the level of your heart at all times, including while you are asleep, for at least two weeks.
How Often Is Revision Rhinoplasty Necessary?
In fact, Revision rhinoplasty surgery is performed more frequently than expected. According to research, surprisingly, approximately 13-15% of patients who undergo primary rhinoplasty undergo at least one nasal revision surgery in their lifetime. Therefore, it is best to eliminate the need for revision surgery by finding the most qualified and experienced nasal surgeon for primary rhinoplasty to minimize the likelihood of needing additional - and often more costly – corrective revision surgery in the future.
