Chin Augmentation and Reduction

Lower jaw tip surgeries; Surgeries are performed to make the tip of the lower jaw more prominent forward (genioplasty) or to position the longer lower jaw tip backwards by making an incision on the bone (mentoplasty). Thus, it is possible to reshape the tip of the lower jaw. Fillers or various implants (silicone, medpor, etc.) can be used to increase the forward projection of the lower jaw tip, which is located at the back.

In the person's profile view; There is an imaginary line connecting the tip of the chin, lips and nose. According to this line, the nose being longer and more protruding than normal or the tip of the chin being further back than normal will have a significant impact on the person's profile appearance. In this regard, we also take chin tip shaping operations into consideration in patients who will undergo rhinoplasty.

How is chin augmentation surgery performed?

Implant surgery to enlarge the tip of the chin is usually a day surgery that lasts approximately 1 hour and is performed under sedation anesthesia or general anesthesia. Fat removal from the chin (liposuction) can be performed as an additional procedure to rhinoplasty or neck and face lift surgeries. To place an implant at the tip of the chin, an incision is made on the inside of the lower lip or a small incision just below the tip of the chin. A space is created in the area where the implant will be placed, the implant is placed there, then the incision is closed with stitches and a bandage is applied to the tip of the chin.

How is chin reduction surgery performed?

In order to reduce the size of the excessively long chin tip, the same type of incisions are made to reach the chin tip. From there, a bone incision is made with special devices for the chin bone. It is fixed to the newly positioned point with several titanium plates and screws to create a balanced profile appearance. The incision inside the skin or lip is closed with stitches.

How Does Healing Happen After Chin Surgery?

After this type of jaw surgery, most patients can return to normal activities within seven days. To prevent swelling, it is recommended to apply ice intermittently and lie down with your head up. You should also follow a liquid diet for the first few days, and oral pain medications may be used for any bothersome pain.

When will I see my results? How long will it last?

You will be able to see the results approximately 2-4 weeks after the surgery, when the swelling and bruising subside. It may take several months for any remaining swelling in the area to subside. The results of the surgery are very long-lasting and your jaw lines will remain the same even if there are some changes in your face due to aging.
