Double Chin Aesthetics
Well, if we want to list the reasons that cause this double chin problem; The person's lower jawbone is underdeveloped and located backwards, there is a higher amount of fat in this area than normal, the salivary glands under the person's jaw are saggy, some of the muscles in this area lose their tone and become saggy, and finally the skin and subcutaneous tissue in this area are similar to those in old age. We can say that it has a loose and saggy structure.
What are the most common causes of double chin?
If we say these as four main reasons;
- Aging: The neck and chin area is very sensitive to fullness and sagging due to age. This sensitivity stems from our lack of attention to gravity and exercises for this area.
- Gaining excess weight: When people gain excess weight, this is usually reflected in their jowl areas. However, when they lose excess weight proportionally from their body through diet and exercise, they realize that the fat volume under the chin remains the same. In other words, the fat volume in this area does not decrease by losing weight.
- Lack of development in the lower jaw bone: In many patients with chin, we encounter an underdeveloped lower jaw bone. This situation leads to a weak profile and poor projection of the lower face. When excess fat or skin accumulates, a double chin quickly begins to appear in these people.
- Genetic predisposition: An important reason for a double chin is the genes you carry from your family, which determine fat storage, water retention, and many other factors that can contribute to this problem. If other members of your family have chins, there's a good chance yours is caused by genetics, too.
How can I get rid of double chin?
There are surgical and non-surgical options to get rid of double chin. While it is possible to get rid of double chin quickly with surgical methods, long-term sessions are required with non-surgical methods. As non-surgical methods, some fat-dissolving enzymes and drugs are applied to the fat tissue in this area in intermittent sessions in a certain order through mesotherapy. However, as a surgeon, I recommend surgical treatments in order to get quick results. These methods; 1-Submental lipectomy; Surgically, excess fat tissue in this area can be removed with a 2-3 cm incision made under the chin. 2-Submental liposuction; In this process, with or without the help of VASER or LASER, the fat in this area is broken down with thin cannulas and removed from the area by means of suction only. If a tightening of the neck skin is desired after the procedure, then using devices such as VASER and LASER will ensure greater effectiveness. These surgical procedures have minor side effects such as redness, bruising, swelling (edema) and pain. However, these side effects disappear within 7-10 days.
Can double chin occur again? What are your suggestions to prevent this from happening?
If you do not change your lifestyle and eating habits, double chin may occur again. In this regard, the best way to get rid of excess fat in your body is to combine exercises with a healthy diet.
