Face Lifting with Threads

Compared to surgical face lift surgeries, the procedure time is shorter, there are no surgical scars on the face, there are no significant risks during and after the surgery, some people are not able to handle a long-term surgery, the effect is seen immediately after the procedure, the post-operative period is short and trouble-free. It is preferred due to its advantages.

The threads used in face lift are divided into two groups: melting(absorbable) and permanent(non absorbable) threads. I prefer permanent threads made of silicone since their effectiveness is short-term as the absorbable threads melt into the tissue. The threads derive their strength and durability from the polyester thread-like backbone. The spirally wound polyester thread-like spine is coated with medical silicone. Their effectiveness continues for a period of 3-4 years. In order to prevent tissue injury and create excessive fibrosis, there are various numbers of 3-dimensional hook structures that are round in shape and allow to hold and stretch the tissue tightly at certain distances. It provides long-term patient satisfaction when applied carefully and meticulously by a certified, experienced specialist. Since these hangers are permanent, they do not melt into the tissue and can only be removed surgically by a specialist who is experienced in facial surgery and knows the anatomy of the region.

After the necessary precautions and warnings are taken before the procedure, it is applied under local or sedation anesthesia in accordance with the technique for approximately 45-60 minutes. The threads are advanced under the skin to a depth of approximately 5 mm and removed from the point where tension is desired. By pulling the threads from the entrance hole, it provides tension to the tissue through hooks that hold on to the surrounding tissue. As with any surgical procedure, there may be side effects such as redness, bleeding, bruising, swelling and pain. Such conditions can be controlled with medication and intermittent ice application. It is recommended that the patient pay attention to the doctor's recommendations after the procedure and not wash her hair or wear make-up for at least 5 days. The first check is made 3-5 days after the procedure, and the next check is made 3-4 weeks later. It is an alternative procedure to face lift surgeries as a natural and long-lasting (at least 3 years) suspension method that is effective immediately.

How is Face Lift Surgery Performed?

Face lift surgeries; It can be performed under general or local anesthesia with intravenous medications (sedation). Since the surgery is a long-term procedure, the appropriate type of anesthesia is determined after consultation with the anesthesiologist. Depending on the width of the area to be operated on, the surgery may take approximately 3-7 hours. After the surgery, you will be taken to your room in the ward with your face wrapped in sterile adhesive tapes and bandages. After they check you here, you may need to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days. After seeing that you meet the necessary conditions for discharge, you will be sent home to rest and recover, accompanied by your companion.

What is the period after Face Lift surgery like?

Recovery times vary from patient to patient. The recovery period is long and may take 2-4 weeks. 2-3 days after the surgery, your bandages will be removed and your first check-up will be made to evaluate the condition of the swelling on your face. Non-dissolvable stitches applied to the incision areas are removed at the end of the first week. In order for healing to occur quickly and swelling to subside in the short term, we recommend that you keep your head elevated, avoid bending over, and avoid lifting heavy things. Intermittent cold applications are important to prevent bruising and swelling in the face and neck area in the postoperative period. You can return to your daily life in approximately 2-3 weeks. However, it will take 2-3 months for the appearance of the face and neck area to return to normal.

Could there be some undesirable situations after Face Lift Surgery?

There may be some unforeseen situations during Face Lift Surgery. When the patient accepts this type of surgery, he/she must know that these undesirable situations may occur and must give informed consent before the surgery. These undesirable situations; Various problems related to anesthesia and, although very rare, death may occur, bleeding during/after surgery or accumulation of blood in the tissue (hematoma) and poor healing of the skin may occur, if infection develops, peeling of the skin, poor healing and perhaps loss of skin may occur, facial skin damage may occur. Sensory changes, pain and loss of movement (paralysis) may occur as a result of damage to the nerves, the patient may develop allergic reactions to the patch and suture material, and bad scars may develop due to the stitches in the incision areas. Hair loss may occur in certain areas due to stretching after the skin is pulled up. In addition, asymmetry may develop on the face and satisfactory results may not be obtained. This surgery does not stop aging. It should be known that such tension on the face and neck is not permanent and the maximum duration of permanence is 8-10 years and it will not last forever. It should be known that revision, that is, a second corrective surgery, may be required. Especially in smokers, conditions such as delayed healing, failure to adhere to the skin, separation and skin necrosis may develop.
