Filler Applications

Hyaluronic acid-containing fillers can be applied to different compartments such as intradermal, subcutaneous, deep and superficial fatty porous tissues, and on the bone. It holds water well above its volume in the area where it is applied, causing the deep folds and grooves and fine wrinkles on the skin to plump and open.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural compound in the human body that binds to water molecules for plump, soft and smooth skin. As HA stores decrease with age, the skin becomes more prone to lines and wrinkles, while some areas of the face appear hollow and dull. Fortunately, HA can be injected using dermal fillers to restore a youthful appearance.

How many types of wrinkles are there?

There are two different types of facial wrinkles:

  • Dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive facial contractions when laughing, smiling, frowning or squinting,
  • Static wrinkles caused by the natural aging process, sun damage, environmental factors and lifestyle choices such as smoking

While neurotoxins relax dynamic wrinkles, Dermal fillers help them disappear by adding volume to static wrinkles.

What is the difference between dermal filler and Neurotoxin?

Dermal fillers reverse signs of aging by providing additional volume to sunken, sagging or wrinkled areas of the face, while Neurotoxins inhibit the ability of muscles to contract to prevent and reduce dynamic wrinkles that appear as a result of repetitive movement. Because most adults experience static and dynamic wrinkles, many patients wish to use a combination of fillers and neurotoxin injections for full facial rejuvenation.

What are the conditions that may develop after dermal filler applications?

Swelling, i.e. edema, is common after dermal filler injections, especially after under-eye treatment. Any swelling that may occur after the applications typically resolves within 2-4 days. But it may take up to 7 days. Bruising (ecchymosis) is also possible, but is less likely to occur. For those who want to keep bruising and swelling to a minimum, it is recommended to apply ice intermittently on the first day and avoid strenuous physical activities until the next morning. It is also recommended not to use anti-aggregant medications such as aspirin for 2 weeks before the injection.

What should we pay attention to after dermal filler application?

After these applications, you can immediately return to your normal activities, but it is recommended that you follow the precautions below for a few days. We can say that you should not be exposed to intense sun such as sunbathing or solarium, should not be exposed to high temperatures such as baths and saunas for 24 hours, should not use creams containing retinoic acid, should not drink alcohol, and should not come into contact with water on the day of the procedure.
