- Excessively upturned nose tip

- Prominently wide nostrils
- Nasal congestion and breathing problems
How is Rhinoplasty Done?
Taking into account your nose anatomy and your shape preferences, your doctor will work with you to prepare a nose plan suitable for your facial structure. It will also inform you about what can be done for a natural and proportionate looking nose and how it can be done safely.
Rhinoplasty Types
Surgical procedures used in rhinoplasty will vary depending on the problems to be addressed during surgery. These types of surgery are:
- Aesthetic Rhinoplasty
- Functional Septorhinoplasty
- Revision/correction surgeries
Aesthetic Rhinoplasty
Aesthetic rhinoplasty treats the nose from an aesthetic perspective. It is a type of surgery performed to obtain an appearance and shape that is aesthetically compatible with the rest of the structures of the face due to the nose being unusually bad-looking, that is, excessively large, drooping and bad-looking nose tip, or due to another problem in the nose. This surgery technique is performed to correct aesthetic concerns such as correcting the bridge on the back of the nose, making the nostrils thinner and symmetrical in the form of teardrops, reshaping the tip of the nose in the form of an equilateral triangle, or positioning the angle between the nose and the lips according to male and female gender characteristics.
Functional Septorhinoplasty
Functional septorhinoplasty is important in correcting the deteriorations in the healthy functioning of the nose. With this technique, the aim is to correct the right and left nasal airways, which are blocked or restricted due to the septum, which is the middle section of the nose, shifting to one side, or the airways of the nose being affected as a result of traumatic injuries, or some hereditary diseases, and allowing healthy breathing.
Revision Rhinoplasty/Septorhinoplasty
Revision or correction rhinoplasty/septorhinoplasty is used to correct or revise the noses of people who have previously had nose surgery by the same or another surgeon, but the desired results were not achieved and they do not have a satisfactory nose appearance. Here, depending on the severity of the bad appearance of the patient's nose, one or more revision surgeries are performed to bring the nose to the desired result. However, here, functional gains along with aesthetic appearance should not be ignored.
How long does rhinoplasty recovery take?
Here we can talk about two types of recovery that every patient experiences: "medical recovery" and "social recovery". Medically, patients can return to light exercise-type activity in one week and full physical activity in two weeks. Many people can return to work within a week with minimal pain or discomfort. Social recovery will take longer as there may be bruising around the eyes that will last for 10-14 days, and it will take weeks or even months for the swelling in the nose to disappear. In particular, the swelling in the upper 1/3 of the nose will decrease by 50% in the first month, while the swelling in the lower 1/3, that is, at the tip of the nose, will decrease by only 25%. After the first month, the swelling gradually decreases and may last up to 9 months. We recommend massage to our patients for 3 months to dissipate this swelling faster.
How Will I Feel After Rhinoplasty?
For the first few days after surgery, your nose will feel stuffy and you will probably only breathe through your mouth. In general, most patients only need painkillers for the first 3 days. We recommend that you always lie with your head elevated relative to your body, avoid leaning forward, and avoid all kinds of close contact and strenuous physical activities for at least 1 month. On the other hand, we recommend that you take light walks from the first week, follow a healthy diet with reduced salt, and avoid alcohol and cigarettes. You can reduce swelling and bruising by applying ice to the upper part of the nose, eye sockets, forehead and cheeks for the first 3 days.
We recommend that you elevate the head of your bed so that your head is above heart level. Since you will be at home and in bed for the first few days, we recommend that you keep all the items that will make you comfortable and entertained near your bed and rest. On the day of your surgery, you will usually be asked to stay in the hospital as a precaution and you will be taken home the next day by a relative. In the first week, you can take a bath so that the molds placed on the outside of the nose do not get wet. Meanwhile, your doctor will contact you on the day or days after surgery to see how you are doing. Then, about a week after the surgery, you will come to your doctor's office and the molds in the nose will be removed. On the other hand, you can always call us with any questions or concerns.
